PARIS, June 12, 2025 – TotalEnergies and Mistral AI have announced a partnership to establish a joint innovation lab to enhance the application of artificial intelligence in the company’s low-carbon energy operations, Reuters reported on Thursday.
The collaboration will see Mistral AI provide its generative AI technology, while TotalEnergies contributes its expertise in energy production, particularly renewables. The lab will focus on developing digital tools to assist 1,000 company researchers, improve industrial asset performance, lower CO2 emissions and enhance customer energy efficiency. Initial efforts include the creation of an AI assistant for researchers, decision-support solutions and customer-focused digital tools.
The initiative also addresses European digital sovereignty, with the companies set to explore the adoption of AI infrastructure by TotalEnergies.
“This deal reflects our intention to contribute to the emergence of a technological ecosystem in Europe,” TotalEnergies chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said. “AI has huge potential to transform energy systems.”
“This partnership illustrates the positive impact generative AI can have on a sector as strategic as that of TotalEnergies,” Mistral AI chief executive officer Arthur Mensch said.
